The Hardanger
region was of particular significance in the period of national
romanticism in the 19th century.
Landscape,
folklore and religious life inspired artists of the time.
The Kabuso
building opens to the fjord, the village church. a museum and a garden with
sculptures of Ingebrigt Vik.
Vik
was born here. His later works show more of an interest in realism and
human existence in general. The time-space of his sculptures offers
variation, but is always created on the basis of a consistent idea.
Realism was in
part helped forward by the science of biology. It profoundly changed our
way of understanding life. The smallest elements of life, microbes and
bacteria, are forces that cause growth and big scale networks.
Considering elementary growth and higher networks is another way of
seeing the landscape.
A window is a
two-way thing. These windows are the institution´s transparent skin. Art
inside is seen from the romantic landscape. The romantic landscape
outside is seen through art. |
