Kjølnes sports park (Porsgrunn
city, Norway) is a centre for a variety of sports: ball sports,
swimming, outdoor activities, skating and more. The area consists of
several parts of different ages. The last addition is a new swimming
pool (2019).
The artistic works
concentrate on movement:
For the
outdoor system about movement in air: sculpture "The Leap".
For the swimming
pool about movement in water: "The Splash" and "The Stream".
Outdoor sculpture
Porsgrunn
municipality at the Art Committee wanted a clear sculptural mark that
could represent the area as a whole. It should
- be a visible vital sign in the
landscape towards the building mass
- provide changing spatial experience
related to movement in and around the square
- be associated
with the entire sports park, not just the buildings vis-à-vis
I sought to let three arcs enter into a
rhythmic, spatial interaction. The balance forces are stretched as far
as possible. The constellation is possible, but precarious.
The swimming pool
There was a desire
for art for window surfaces in the new swimming pool, made in coloured
window film.
The linear arch shapes from the sculpture
were taken further. Now in order to suggest water, instead of space and
air:
- in strong motion (as in splashing,
diving, fountains, etc.) at the central window to the exterior wall. .
- in calm motion
(as in calm sea, slow river flow, pool at rest) at the window to
interior guard room.
