2002. Commission – Vågsbygd secondary
school, Kristiansand, Norway
Two identical, flat steel arches merge
to become one spatial form. The vertical arch is in dialogue with
distant surfaces: school, apartment blocks, shopping centre, trees and
sky. The horizontal arch contacts passers-by: has human scale, tangible,
seeks ground level.
The arches appear unstable however
reciprocally support each other.
Although simple, the sculpture changes in character and expression as
one walks around it. |
