Commission - Frieda Fasmers Minne,
Hospital. Bergen.
Natural stone. 1996
The hospital was extended during
1994-97: 24 rooms, canteen, and 20 service locations - total 4300m2. I
worked with the landscape architect and the architect in the planning
process.
Central
intentions: the interplay of daylight, season, and vegetation. New forms
and material experience, including wheelchair eye view.
3 outside sculptures. Simple gestures:
to open, to close, to support, to be supported – contained in one
outside space.
Stone: Askøy-gneiss, which has an
especially rich colour play when wet. Surfaces: sawn, partly
flame-treated. Contours: rough, cut by hand.
The sculptures vary in height from 80 to
160 cm.
Builders: Bergen Kommune.
